What people hire skips for in Table View

  • Coastal maintenance work — decking, windows and salt-damaged fittings coming out of the Blouberg flats
  • Renovations in the older Table View houses, and offcut clearing on the newer Parklands and Sunningdale builds
  • Sand and rubble from paving and landscaping, which is heavy and needs a smaller bin than people expect
  • Flat and complex clearances, where access is nearly always the deciding factor

Getting a skip in and out of Table View

Two things to plan for here. Wind: a light bin of packaging on a bad day is a genuine hazard, and most operators will not leave one uncovered near the beachfront. And complexes: much of Parklands and Blouberg is sectional title with a single narrow entrance, so the bin often has to go in a visitor bay with the trustees’ permission. Sand is heavier than it looks — for paving work take the smaller bin and fill it properly.

Questions people ask

I am in a complex. Where will the skip go?

Usually a visitor bay or beside the bin store, with the trustees’ say-so. The lorry needs a straight run and clear height at the entrance, which is the part that catches complexes out. Put the complex name on the form so the operator can check the access before committing to a time.

How much sand or rubble fits in a bin?

Less than you think. Sand, soil and rubble hit the weight limit long before the bin looks full, so a 2 or 4 cube is normally right for paving work. Overfilled bins get refused at the tip and the operator cannot legally carry them.

Will the wind be a problem?

It can be, for light loads. If you are throwing packaging, polystyrene or offcuts in, ask for a cover or keep the heavy material on top. Operators along this coast deal with it every summer and will tell you what they need.
